It Starts With Heart

It was always within me, beating heavily in my chest.  All I had to do was listen to my heart to help me get out of the rut I had found myself in.  As I put words on a page, it was laying stepping stones to a path of enlightenment and happiness.

When I was given the opportunity to write a chapter for an MS anthology, I was a little unsure, but I decided to go out of my comfort zone.  I have told my story to medical professionals, but will the general public understand?  As it was an anthology, there were 25 other authors also telling their similar stories to mine.  I felt safe in numbers!  Through the whole writing experience, from first being asked by my publisher to sharing in an epic book launch, I found my next step on a path to fulfilment.  It was a natural progression to author my own book, ‘Little Book With Heart’.

With my physical body deteriorating and my mind finding it harder to cope, I started listening to that little voice in the back of my mind.  I said “yes” to being creative and expressing myself through creative pieces, such as short poems.  I wanted to share with others my story, to help, even one person, rise above the adversities they may face.

I was able to see what I could achieve with my writing, even though  I can only move my neck and head.  Seeing my completed book and sharing it with the world allowed me to spread the message that if you have the right attitude and perspective, you can achieve great things.

During my writing process, I could hear my thoughts and my mind shift toward a more confident, can-do mindset.  I could also see, in my writing process, my family and friends’ happiness and joy, and that I had found solace in writing and was able to move forward in life.

Writing my little book reinforced to me the importance of those whom we surround ourselves with.  Writing is a transformational tool to have in my toolkit for life.

Reading other people’s stories of how they have navigated, managed and overcome a chronic illness can help a person to be confident in facing their own challenges and setbacks.  This was my hope that those who reached out to read my story took away more than just words, but the ability to transform their own life, just like I did.

What is your heart and mind telling you?

Beautifully expressed and influential. Kerrie is a great inspiration to anyone facing similar issues. I have had personal positive support from Kerrie following a very difficult time in my life. She has great insight, and as someone else said, she has a great ability to see things from different points of view and can think outside the box. All her writings are truly inspirational and were greatly appreciated by my late husband who faced his own serious health issues.
