Leaving Comfort Behind
In 2008, at just 17 years old, I made a decision that would completely change the direction of my life. I left Marbella, Spain, and moved to New York City.
Marbella is a beautiful place to grow up, but I knew there were limited opportunities for someone who wanted to build a serious career in music management. Music was already a huge part of my life, and I felt that if I wanted to succeed, I needed to place myself where the industry was thriving.
I didn’t have a powerful network or a guaranteed path to success. What I had was ambition, determination, and the belief that taking a risk was better than living with regret.
Starting From Scratch
Arriving in New York at 17 was both exciting and intimidating. Everything moved faster than I was used to. I had to learn quickly, adapt, and prove myself in one of the most competitive industries in the world.
There were setbacks, rejections, and moments of uncertainty. But every challenge became a lesson, and every lesson helped me move forward.
Managing My First Artist
One of the most important milestones in my journey was managing my first artist. Suddenly, I wasn’t only responsible for my own ambitions—I was helping someone else pursue theirs.
That experience taught me about trust, communication, strategy, and resilience. It also showed me that successful management is about understanding people and helping them realise their potential.
The Mindset Shift
Looking back, the biggest turning point wasn’t moving to New York. It wasn’t signing an artist either.
The real turning point came when I stopped waiting for permission. I realised that opportunities rarely arrive exactly when you want them to. Instead, you have to create them yourself.
That shift in mindset changed everything. Rather than focusing on what I lacked, I focused on what I could build.
Building a Career
Over the years, that approach helped me build a successful career in music management. I went on to found Total Artist Management and had the privilege of working with talented artists, including Courtney Hadwin.
Watching artists grow, develop their craft, and reach new audiences continues to be one of the most rewarding parts of my work. Those experiences reinforced the importance of persistence, adaptability, and long-term thinking.
Almost Anything Is Possible
When I think back to the teenager who left Marbella for New York, I realise how little he knew about what lay ahead.
What he did have was belief. Belief that growth happens outside your comfort zone. Belief that taking risks can open doors you never imagined. Belief that almost anything is possible when you’re willing to back yourself.
That single decision changed my life.
And it leaves me with one question: What opportunity might be waiting for you on the other side of a decision you’re afraid to make?
